Day 11- 27 May - Archer River Roadhouse to Moreton Telegraph Station - 121 km

Out the gate at 8.30 am after breakfast and collecting sandwiches. The road surface was ok and we made good progress. Passed this road train early on. We stopped for smoko at 10.30 am and ate some boiled eggs.

About 12.00 noon we reached the Telegraph Rd turn-off to Bamaga. There was a rest stop but no shade. The road surface here was smooth hard clay, great to ride on.

Stopped to chat with a guy on a motobike comin back from Bamaga. He had ridden the Old Telegraph Track on his motorbike. Flooded the engine at one river crossing and had to change his oil and wait for the bike to dry out. He had seen 3 cyclists a week ago on the Bloomfield Track. Realised later it was probably us with Patrick.

Rode through this creek on the way and scared a goanna that dropped out of a tree into the water.  $10.00 to the person that can spot him.

12.45 pm stopped for lunch by the road. Little shade and no grass so the tarp was on bumpy ground. By lunch we had done 60 km so it was starting to look as if we could reach Moreton Telegraph Station. As the afternoon wore on we found no places suitable for camping so we kept going. At 3.30 we had short chat and agreed to push as we only had 35 km left. Eventually we crossed the Wenlock River and rode into MTS.

We were immediately impressed with the surrounds. We booked in and went and found our campsite. While we were setting up a John came over to tell us how impressed he was with our efforts. He stayed chatting for a while and gave us some fruit when I mentioned getting fruit and vegies was problem on this trip. Thanks john.

For dinner we went to the Linesmen's Deck, a restaurant used mainly for tour groups and joined 3 other blokes. Tim and Andy were Telstra techo's working the area. They had lots of stories to tell. They certainly get around and make a squillion on Travel Allowance. Reminded us of people we know. The other guy Brett works at MTS and does river tours. They were great company for dinner.
