Early start to day, were on our bikes by 8.00 am. The first hour was hilly with gravel, sat on the brakes quite a bit trying to find the right line.
Fortunately the steepest hill had bitumen. Our legs were better today but it was our wrists, elbows, and shoulders suffering because of the mixture of gravelly, sandy, rocky surfaces.
At 22 km we crossed the Normanby River, a pretty spot.
I loved this tree and the exposed roots.
Got to the start of Lakefield National Park.
After it was long stretches off flat open bushland. Saw the sign for Battlecamp Station, site of a battle between a road surveying and 500 aboriginals.
Stopped for lunch and a rest at Lake Emma (50 km). Saw what we thought were water buffalo on the other side of the lake.
After lunch we rode through a long stretch of rocky road that was very tough on the wrist and elbows. Reached Laura River at 3.00 pm.
After locating our campsite we went back to the river to refresh.
Cooked dinner of Continental Tomato and Onion for dinner and ate it on a log beside the river while we played spot the croc.
Saw this tree and and knew that Dave had travelled this way before me.
Thank God, I was seconds away from ringing 000
