Slow start to the day. Did our washing before leaving Bamaga Resort. Bamaga is named for Chief Bamaga of the Sabai Island people who migrated here in 1947 for a better life. Seisa just down the road is also an islander community.Stopped at the supermarket on the way out of town. Much better range of stock than Coen. Just about all the businesses in town are owned by Bamaga Enterprises Ltd i.e. by the community.
In both Bamaga and Seisa dogs and horses roam freely. We saw a dog lying in the middle of the road and watched as cars steered around it. According to the resort manager horses have right of way in Bamaga.20 minutes down the bitumen we were in Seisa trying to find the camp park manager. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, we had issues locating our tent site because his directions were vague. Eventually ended up in a shady location near the beach
Seisa is on lovely beach with lots of coconut palms. It is also the ferry terminus for our trip back to Cairns next week. Had a look at where we leave from. Looks impressive doesn't it???We had a lazy afternoon after some excellent fishburgers from the cafe. Tried to spot crocs on the beach at dusk and booked in for trip to Thursday Island tomorrow.
Our remaining gas cylinder expired after dinner which may be problem as we can't find replacements in the local supermarkets.Good sunset looking along the beach.
We decided to ride from Tidal River to the top of Cape York 2 years ago. We are doing it in 3 stages. 2011 we went from Tidal River to Coffs Harbour - 1600 km. 2013 we rode from Coffs Harbour to Cairns - 2400 km. This year, 2013, we are riding from Cairns to the top of Cape York via the Bloomfield Track, Development road and the Old Telegraph Track.
