After breakfast we headed out on the bikes without panniers - destination Somerset, the site of the home of pioneer settler Frank Jardine. The road from Punsand had been graded yesterday but was still pretty rough on the bikes. It was also wet and sticky in places due to the overnight rain.
I didn't want to get my feet wet and thought I was being smart by walking around the edges of some water. Joe did the smat thing by going cross country.
After 11 km we turned left up the road to the tip and then later took the alternative branch toward Somerset. The corrugations on the road were tough and seem more difficult without the weight of the panniers.
It took about 3 hours to get to Somerset Beach. It is a lovely spot and would have a great campsite if we had brought food and water. There are some historic graves and a marker commemorating the Kennedy Expedition that explored the area.
Had all these things hung up with peoples names on them at somerset beach. Today has been the day for snakes. Tony saw a slender but long green snake on the track yesterday. I saw a similiar snake today. When we were having lunch in the Corrugation Bar at Punsand today another patron picked up a snake and moved it into the bush. It was suggested that he throw it into the kitchen. And while I was typing just before Tony pointed out a snake slithering past our table. Unfortunately it was gone before I could get a picture.
Could not understand why there was a sign for a taxi at an out of the way place like Somerset Beach.
Joe considering his options at a muddy pool on the road back to Punsand Bay.
