Day 16 - 1 June - Eliot Falls to Bamaga - 94 km

Up early packed, had breakfast and said goodbye to Liam and Will.  They slept in swags next to their truck.
Shortly after leaving Eliot we crossed Canal Creek, another crystal clear stream where the 4wds have chewed up the banks and caused massive erosion.  Someone had lost a bullbar along the way.
This was followed by Sam Creek, ditto previous creek. just past there we stopped to chat to some blokes who were camped. One had yelled out to me, "have you seen a psychiatrist". My response, "why has one gone by"? It is often suggested to us that we are crazy for cycling the Old Telegraph Track.

Shortly after this we reached the turnoff to the Bypass road and said goodbye to the OTT. We had to hop off the track a few times as the Variety Club cars came through. One lot stopped and wanted to take pictures of these 2 crazy guys.
One on the Bypass Road we made rapid progress to Jardine River despite a very strong wind that came from all directions.
Signs are much more informative up here, not only is there a dip, but its only a little one.
The ferry crossing was closed for lunch so we boiled a billy for some Cup-a-Soup to wash down the peanut butter lunch. I had a chat with an English couple from Townsville who were touring with their nieces.
When the ferry office reopened Tony purchased our ticket and some Powerades and we took the short ride over the river. Originally we thought we might stay at Jardine River but there wasn't anything to stay for so another 45 km to Bamaga.

After Jardine the wind was really bad, the road surfaces were really crap and there were hills, all meaning it was a very tough afternoon. Eventually we rolled into Bamaga about 4.30 pm, very tired, nothing here so we booked into Bamaga Resort.
About 5 km from Bamaga we went through Injinoo, an Aboriginal settlement.  I stopped to wait for Joe and while I was stopped all these came up for a chat.  Nice, friendly kids.
We had a long chat with some folks in a tour group including Alan who is a GVBR participant. I may run into him again in November on the Great Ocean Road.

We had dinner in the restaurant. Barramundi on potato mash with veggies, our 1st really good meal in many days.

We were told not to leave our bikes outside, even though they were locked up, so we put them in the room. who wouldn't want to sleep with their bike?
